SSC Exam Syllabus and Pattern ( CGL)

SSC refers to the Staff Selection commission. The main task of this commission is to recruit staff for the various department and ministries of the Government.  The head of the commission is the chairman and other two members. There is also a security-cum-controller of examination, his task is to assit the chairman of the commission. 

There are various kinds of jobs under SSC from Grade B to Grade C . individual with the graduation from a recognized university is allowed to give exam.

In this article we will discuss syllabus and pattern of the SSC CGL Exam 

PATTERN OF SSC CGL EXAM:-

Before getting into the further detail first let us discuss the pattern of SSC CGL exam. This exam took place in four Tier which are discussed in detail below.

Tier I:- computer based exam

Tier II:- computer Based Exam 

Tier III:- Descriptive Exam (Pen and Paper mode)

Tier IV:- Computer skill Testing 


SSC CGL EXAM SYLLABUS:-

Tier wise explanation of the syllabus is as follow:- 

 Tier I:- Tier I is divided between four set of syllabus which are as follows:-

  1. Quantitative Aptitude:- It is one of the important topic the exam . One need to be thoroughly prepared to clear this section. Although the question is of the medium level. The syllabus is as follow:-  

  • Percentage,
  •  Number system, 
  • Square roots, 
  • Interest,
  • Complementary angles, 
  • Histogram, 
  • Data analysis, 
  • Ratio and Proportion, 
  • Heights and Distances
        2. General Intelligence and Reasoning    - This portion is added to check the analytical knowledge of the student. The main topic of this section is as follows:-

  • Venn diagram 
  • number analogy 
  • Drawing inferences 
  • number classification 
  • semantic classification 
  • space visualization.

         3. General Awareness - The important topics of this section is:-

  • History ( Vedic culture, Harappa civilization, medieval India and their important system)
  • Geography  (major sea ports and air ports and their location, countries geographical area)
  • Current Affairs.
  • General knowledge.

4. English skills:- Syllabus of this section is as discussed below:-

  • One word Substitution 
  • sentence rearrangement 
  • Vocab and grammar skills 
  • reading comprehension 
  • spotting the errors 
  • synonyms and antonyms.

TIER II:-  Candidates who are able to clear the first tier are promoted. The syllabus of Tier II is much similar to that of Tier I with high Difficulty Level. This tier is also divided between four exam .The detail syllabus is as following:-

1.  Quantitative Aptitude:- Difficulty level is high in Tier II . The question comes from the following:- 

  • Percentages
  •  Number system
  •  Time and distance
  • Time and Work
  •  Basic Algebra Identities.

2.    Statistics:- It comprises of the following:-

  • Diagrammatic representation of Data
  •  Data distribution 
  • calculation 
  • skewness and Kurtosis.

          3.    General Studies- (Finance and Economics):- It comprises of following:-

  • Macro and micro Economics
  •  Growth and development
  •  Market analysis- production, demand , supply Indian economy
  •  Economic reform 
  • Money and Banking.

       4.    English Language:- It comprises of following :-

  •  Active and passive voice
  • Shuffling of sentence
  • Comprehension passages
  • Direct and indirect Speech.

TIER III :-  Tier III was introduced in order to check the candidates language proficiency, vocab usage, grammar knowledge and the writing skills. 

Topic for such can be anything specially related to the current economic conditions. Candidate need to present the full view of the given topic.


TIER IV :-  Tier IV syllabus is as follow:-

IMPORTANT POINT:-

According to the SSC CGL exams pattern,  there will be negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer in Tier I.

According to SSC CGL exam pattern , negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Tier II.

Based on my experience, students should solve the previous year papers along with the course material. You can find different SSC JE books for different departments of SSC JE at EA Publication. SBI Clerk Mains 2020: Exam Pattern

SBI Clerk Mains : Conducting Body: SBI. Mode of Examination: Online. Timings: Separate timings are associated to each section.
